How We Ship Plants Information

Colossians 1:15-16 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation, for all things in heaven and on earth were created by him – all things, whether visible or invisible, whether thrones or dominions, whether principalities or powers – all things were created through him and for him.

I hope that the following answers your questions regarding the shipment of your hosta and grass acquisition!

  • Shipping to contiguous states: UPS Ground Service.  These shipments generally are received within three business days. Those areas where standard delivery is 4 or more days, we ship using UPS 3 Day Select service which guarantees delivery in 3 business days.  Alaska: 2nd day air service is the only UPS shipment available.
  • I am trying to better size pots so that the plant may be shipped without disturbing its roots.  Please see the following article on pot sizes.   Plants in larger containers have excess dirt removed to reduce shipping weight and bagged in plastic.
  • All plants are thoroughly watered before leaving our nursery.  In cooler spring temperatures, plants can last up to 2 weeks in the box.  However, shipping is scheduled so that weekend storage at UPS warehouses is eliminated.
  • Hostas are rolled in newspaper or other paper which eliminates damage to leaves.

(Left) Hostas packed tightly into shipping container. Starch-based packing peanuts are used to fill all voids. Cardboard is then used between the layers of plants to prevent damaging movement during shipping. We take the utmost care in packing the plants that you have ordered for your gardens. As you can see, we don't ship just the roots, but the whole plant!
