Hosta Uses

John 8:12 Then Jesus spoke out again, “I am the light of the world. The one who follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Uses For Hostas

Nature plants hostas where ever they can grab a strong hold. Gardeners might want to exercise a little more planning so that the selected hostas compliment the garden. Consider the following uses to spark interest in your garden:

  • Border/Edger planting - Hostas for the border are generally 12 inches or less in height but have increased horizontal growth. By overhanging a lawn edge they are able to control weeds as they leave no room or light for them.
  • Background/Backdrop planting - Large green hostas will show off more colorful varieties of plants. Hostas which emerge with tremendous color but fade to all green (viridescent) are great background plants (see fortunei 'Albo-picta').
  • Specimen planting
  • Groundcover planting
  • Natural brightener for shady or dark gardens (yellow and mostly white hostas)
