Color Groups

The different colors and color combinations available in Hostas today give testimony to the diversity of use of the Hosta! There is certainly a Hosta which you will fall in love with and place in an exalted position in your garden.

Solid Color Hostas

Blue-Green & Grey-Green In general, blue shades of Hosta need more shade and cool temperatures to hold the blue color. Direct sunlight on blues can cause them to turn green. The blue color is almost like a powder which can be removed by water and rubbing. 'Halcyon' is a very bright blue which is one of the best at holding the blue long into the season.

Green Green shades (quite varied) blend easily with all other Hostas and other companion plants.

Yellow Yellow/gold leaves adds a lot of 'light' to a darker corner of your garden.

Variegated Hostas

Variegated hostas consist of leaves margined in white to cream, yellow to gold, green-apple to dark green, which contrast with the center. Variegated Hosta range in all sizes form dwarf to humongous. Variegated Hostas are perfect as specimen plants. Being very eye-catching they should bring plenty of 'ooooss' and 'aaaaas' from your garden visitors.
