Botanical Name: Panicum virgatum 'Northwind'

Latin: Panicum (PAN-ih-kum) virgatum (veer-GAH-tum)

Description: Cultivar of the native Switch Grass selected by Northwind Perennial Farm near Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. The seed heads are open panicles. The foliage has an interesting green color on the tops, and blue on the backs. Stiffly upright habit making it the most vertical grasses available. Nice yellow fall color. Prefers fertile, well drained solid and full sun. Late to begin growth in the spring, but when it starts will rapidly take its place in the garden. Good for massing and cutting.
