Botanical Name: Miscanthus sinensis 'Strictus' Family: Poaceae (Grass) Common Name: Porcupine Grass Latin: Miscanthus (mis-KAN-thus) sinensis (sin-EN-sis) Description: Porcupine Grass derives its name from the spiky foliage which has closely spaced, horizontal, cream yellow banding across the leaves. It is a clumping grass with a stiff, upright growing habit. Pinkish plumes appear in October. It is a very showy grass and makes a striking specimen plant. Similar to 'Zebrinus' in regards to the heavy banding. However, the leaves are half as long as 'Zebrinus' which hardens the plant and makes it look more coarse.
