Botanical Name: Miscanthus sinensis 'Gold Bar'
Family: Poaceae (Grass)
Common Name:
Latin: Miscanthus (mis-KAN-thus) sinensis (sin-EN-sis)
Description: A truly outstanding new miscanthus! 'Gold Bar' forms an eye-catching clump of green leaves that are horizontally banded in creamy yellow from the base of the plant to the tips of the leaves. There's nearly as much yellow as there is green! Adding to its appeal, this grass is strictly upright and compact in habit, so there's no need to stake or tie it. In mid-fall, showy burgundy inflorescences appear just above the foliage. This grass is a very slow grower, reaching an ultimate height of 5 feet in about 8 years. Therefore, it's best to position it in the landscape as you would a shorter grass and then move it when it reaches maturity. It also works well in large containers.
