Botanical Name: Miscanthus sinensis 'Gracillimus' Family: Poaceae (Grass) Common Name: Maiden Grass Gracillimus Latin: Miscanthus (mis-KAN-thus) sinensis (sin-EN-sis) Description: A large grass to 6 ft. tall with a thin leaf blade, giving it a finer texture than the other Miscanthus (except 'Morning Light'). Grey green foliage, forming a dense upright vase shape clump. The plume when it first emerges is bright burgundy to dark pink. Best of all Miscanthus for dried arrangements. Quite useful as a background plant or as a specimen planting. Fall foliage turns orange in cool climates. One of the oldest and best know Miscanthus cultivars. Mature specimens may tend to flop if shaded, too moist, or fertility is high.
